A Rest Stop on the Raad Ny Foillan: A Guest’s Journey to Cascadia House

Every so often, a guest leaves more than a memory behind. They leave a story.

Recently, while staying at Cascadia House in Ramsey, a traveller from Switzerland opened our guest book and wrote a beautiful handwritten note about his stay. He had come to the Isle of Man to walk the Raad Ny Foillan, the famous coastal footpath that circles the island.

After several days on the trail, he stopped in Ramsey for a short break.

And that’s when Cascadia House became part of his journey.

Walking the Isle of Man’s Coastal Path

The Raad Ny Foillan, which means “The Way of the Gull” in Manx Gaelic, is one of the Isle of Man’s most spectacular walking routes. Stretching roughly 100 miles around the island, it follows dramatic cliffs, quiet beaches, fishing harbours, and rolling farmland.

Walkers often complete the route in stages, staying in different towns along the coast as they travel.

Ramsey, located on the northern coast of the island, is a particularly welcome stop. It offers sweeping sea views, peaceful streets, and easy access to the next stages of the trail.

For our Swiss guest, Ramsey became the perfect place to pause.

A Moment to Rest and Refuel

In his note, he wrote:

“It was incredible from the arrival and even better than I had expected from the online pictures.

I could really enjoy the time here and make one ‘relaxation day’ with no walks.

I am now fully refueled to make my last round on my coastal path.”

One of the things we love about hosting walkers is knowing that Cascadia House becomes a place where people can truly slow down.

After long miles along cliffs and coastal paths, a comfortable home, a warm shower, and a quiet evening can feel like luxury.

Sometimes guests stay for just a night.
Sometimes they stay for several days to recharge before continuing their journey around the island.

A Home for Travellers from Around the World

What makes the Isle of Man special is the variety of people it attracts.

At Cascadia House we’ve welcomed guests from across the UK, Europe, and beyond. Some come for family visits, some for holidays, and others arrive with hiking boots and backpacks, ready to explore the island step by step.

Our guest book has slowly become a small record of those journeys.

Each entry tells a different story.

The Perfect Base in Ramsey

Cascadia House sits in the heart of Ramsey, just minutes from the seafront and within easy reach of cafés, pubs, and restaurants. For walkers on the Raad Ny Foillan, it offers something simple but important:

A comfortable place to rest.

Whether you’re stopping for a night on the coastal path, visiting the Isle of Man for the first time, or simply looking for a relaxing stay by the sea, Ramsey provides a wonderful base for exploring the north of the island.

And if you decide to pause for a day, like our Swiss guest did, that might be the best part of the journey.

A Thank You from Us

To Hens-Georg from Konolfingen, Switzerland — thank you for leaving such a kind message in our guest book.

We hope the final stages of your coastal walk were as memorable as the beginning.

And if your travels ever bring you back to the Isle of Man, Cascadia House will be waiting.
